The Gen Z protests
A government order on 4 September 2025 blocking twenty-six social media platforms brings crowds into the streets over corruption and nepotism. Security forces shot demonstrators, the parliament building was set alight, and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned on 9 September; at least 76 people were killed.
An interim government under Sushila Karki
With parliament dissolved on 12 September, the president appoints the former chief justice as prime minister — the first woman to hold the office — with a mandate to hold elections within six months.
